Supporting people in need within our community with a focus on women, children and seniors
CPC SILKS has raised over $200,000 and supported projects in local community to include:
- Special Olympics
- Uncles and Aunts at Large
- Camp Warwa
- Stop Abuse in Families
- Operation Friendship Senior’s Society
In addition to raising money for our charities, we also donate our time: volunteering at different charity events, helping other CPC chapters with their events, and our special Stitch & Bitch group that knits items for the Sturgeon Hospital Gift Shop… no knitting experience necessary!

Special Olympics
Special Olympics enriches the lives of more than 40,000 children, youth and adults who are participants in both winter and summer sports games. Special Olympics delivers one message to Canadians: people with an intellectual disability can and will succeed in life if given the opportunity.
As a Bronze partner with Special Olympics, Canadian Progress Clubs across Canada have donated more than $2,000,000 to Special Olympics.
Uncles and Aunts at Large
Uncles and Aunts at Large only operates in Edmonton and surrounding areas. It was established by local Canadian Progress Clubs over 40 years ago.
Uncles and Aunts at Large offers mentor services for children through companionship and friendly support to children ages 6 to 18 from single-parent families. The new Strengthening Families Program helps teens and parents build and practice communication, life and family skills together.
Camp Warwa
Camp Warwa Society was founded in 1980 with the generous donation of their land by the Warwa family and the organization of representatives from the Alberta Northern Zone Canadian Progress Clubs.
Camp Warwa is committed to improving the lives of children through providing experiences in the outdoors. Every experience at Camp Warwa is intended to encourage and inspire a sense of connection with other people, with the nature world, and with oneself.
The Dave Williams Memorial Fund was established by CPC SILKS in the summer of 2011 to send 6 campers who are unable to afford the costs: 3 pooled from Camp Warwa list and 3 pooled from Uncles and Aunts at Large list of prospective campers wishing to go to Camp Warwa who cannot afford it. With the encouragement of Dave Williams, St. Albert Men’s club chartered the CPC SILKS in 2006. The Dave Williams Memorial Fund is a way to carry on his legacy of the importance of what Canadian Progress meant to him.
Stop Abuse in Families (SAIF)
SAIF (Stop Abuse in Families Society) provides services to clients experiencing abuse and its devastating effects to the family. SAIF offers support groups and group educational prevention programs to schools and groups in the community.
Operation Friendship Seniors Society
OFSS (Operation Friendship Seniors Society) provides community based preventable social services to improve quality of life for seniors in need over 55 years of age. OFSS also provides safe, affordable non-institutionalized housing options.
